Strong pitching helps Hawaii baseball beat Cal Poly

Logan Pouelsen and Dylan Thomas combined on a three-hitter to lead the Hawaii baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Cal Poly today in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Rainbow Warriors ended the eight-game, 13-day road trip by salvaging the finale of the three-game set. The Mustangs, who entered alone atop the Big West, won on Friday and Saturday.

Pouelsen allowed three hits and a run in seven innings. Thomas pitched the final two innings. Both pitchers held the Mustangs without a hit in the final five innings.

Ethan Lopez drove in three runs for the ’Bows on an RBI single in the first and two-run single in UH’s three-run fifth. Lopez, the usual third baseman, started at short in place of ailing Maaki Yamazaki.

The ’Bows improved to 20-24 overall and 8-10 in the Big West. The Mustangs are 22-22 and 11-4.
