Power restored for thousands of Windward Oahu customers
Hawaiian Electric Co. has restored power to all Windward Oahu customers who were affected by a power outage Thursday that briefly left about 8,000 customers in the dark.
A HECO spokeswoman said in an update at about 9:20 p.m. that power was restored to all customers. The electric company had restored power to all but 40 customers by about 4 p.m.
In addition, all lanes were open on Kamehameha Highway near Malaekahana Beach park where repair crews were working on the makai side of the highway, the spokeswoman said.
The outage started about 2:10 p.m. and affected residents in Kahuku, Kaaawa, and Kahuluu.
HECO restored power to about 5,000 customers by 2:30 p.m.
HECO said the cause of the outage is under investigation.
