Honolulu firefighters battle a building fire Friday night on Kapiolani Boulevard. No one was hurt, but a squatter was found inside the abandoned building.

Honolulu firefighters were investigating the cause of a fire in an abandoned building in Moiliili where a squatter was found Friday night.

Ten units staffed with 39 personnel responded to the 2700 block of Kapiolani Blvd., near Kaimuki High School, at around 8:25 p.m.

The first crew that arrived discovered a four-story apartment building with smoke and flames coming from the fourth floor, Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant said in a news release.

Seguirant said the fire was contained to unit 401 and brought under control at 8:30 p.m. The blaze was extinguished at 8:42 p.m.

The building is known to be abandoned, but firefighters found a male squatter in unit 403, Seguirant said.

No injuries were reported.
