Firefighters extinguish brush fire near Kapolei Walmart

Smoke was seen rising from the area near Walmart in Kapolei.

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a small brush fire that broke out near Walmart in Kapolei Monday morning.

Four units with 11 firefighters responded to the blaze in an area behind the store at 91-600 Farrington Highway at about 8:50 a.m.

Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant said the fire started at a homeless encampment and spread to brush behind Walmart.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at about 9:35 a.m. today. No injuries were reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
