A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Salt Lake after he damaged his father’s vehicle and cell phone, police said.

The boy used a rock to damage his 39-year-old father’s vehicle about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Then he prevented his father from calling 911 by grabbing his phone and smashing it on the ground.

Police located the boy about 12:50 p.m. Wednesday and arrested him for investigation of two counts of criminal property damage and interfering with the reporting of an emergency or crime.

He was released several hours later pending investigation.
