Teen charged with manslaughter in Kalihi woman’s death to be tried as an adult

A teenager charged with manslaughter in the July purse-snatching death of an 85-year-old Kalihi woman is now being tried as an adult, according to police.

A Family Court judge waived jurisdiction over the teen identified in court records as Saikit Denny Saingo, also known as Denny Boy Saingo, on Tuesday. That allowed prosecutors to charge him as an adult with manslaughter in the death of Dolores Corpus.

Saingo, 17, was also charged with second-degree robbery. Saingo’s bail is set at $100,000.

Because he is being tried as an adult, the teen could face life in prison.

Manslaughter involving a victim over age 60 is a Class A felony with enhanced sentencing.

The purse-snatching occurred during the early morning hours on Kamehameha IV Road near the intersection of Kini Place on July 21.

Corpus was walking with her husband when a bicyclist later identified as Saingo, then 16, snatched her purse and fled.

She sustained head injuries when she fell to the ground and was taken to a hospital. Her condition worsened and she died five days later.
