Hilo man, 27, charged with sex assault, kidnapping

Prosecutors charged a 27-year-old Hilo man accused of sex assault involving a 20-year-old woman he met online.

Paul Joseph Daub was charged Saturday with two counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping. His bail is set at $22,000.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a sexual assault just after 1 a.m. Friday.

Police contacted the victim who reported that she met with a man she had been communicating with on the internet.

After they met, the victim reported the suspect drove her to a secluded area in the Panaewa area where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Police said she attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times but the suspect pulled her back in.

During the course of the investigation, police arrested the suspect later identified as Daub.
