Huakai Kalamau

The 21-year-old man has been indicted by an Oahu grand jury for the alleged manslaughter of his 5-month old son.

Huakai Kalamau was indicted on Monday, although the indictment is sealed and not available to the public. Court documents indicate it’s to protect his son’s identity, although family on social media identified him as Ali’i Kalamau.

At his Kapolei home on Dec. 14, Kalamau became upset with his son, who was crying and screaming, before allegedly grabbing and violently shaking him. Kalamau said in court documents that the infant then began throwing up baby formula and grasping for air. He soon became unresponsive and was pronounced dead at Queen’s Medical Center West.

The grand jury ordered a bench warrant for Kalamau’s arrest, and it was served today. His bail is set at $300,000.

Kalamau will appear in Family Court on Monday for his arraignment and plea.
