Emergency services respond to multiple incidents of near-drownings on Oahu

Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to calls reporting two unresponsive people found offshore a rocky Waianae coastline.

A good Samaritan brought both people back to shore on a board. Lifeguards began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on both patients.

One man in his 50s was diving when the second man saw him floating in the water. The second man, who is 56-years-old attempted to save him but ended up in trouble himself.

Honolulu Emergency Services took over life-saving measures when they arrived on the scene, and transported both men to the area’s emergency room in critical condition.

Shortly after, another 29-year-old man needed to be rescued after he jumped into the ocean at China Walls and could not get back out.

Bystanders rescued the man and brought him to shore where EMS treated him for lacerations on his feet. The man refused any further medical treatment.

City emergency services have had to respond to multiple calls at China Walls over the weekend and urged people to take extreme caution along the Ka Iwi coastline.
