A four-man canoe knocked a 17-year-old surfer unconscious late this afternoon in waters off Waikiki.

Surfers found the unresponsive teenager at a surf break known as Tonggs.

Ocean Safety lifeguards got the call at 4:46 p.m. and got to the boy in three minutes.

Lifeguards brought him to shore, performed CPR and quickly got a pulse back, said Shayne Enright, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman.

Emergency Medical Services provided advanced life support and transported the teen to a hospital in critical condition.
