Forecasters expect Tropical Storm Jimena, Tropical Depression Hilda to weaken in East Pacific

Although the former Hurricane Hilda has weakened to a tropical depression, the former Tropical Depression Nine-E has strengthened to a tropical storm.
As of 5 a.m. Hawaii time, Tropical Storm Jimena was located 1,195 miles east-southeast of Hilo and packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph while moving northwest at 7 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
Forecasters expect Jimena to continue on its current track for the next couple of days, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest early Sunday. However, the tropical storm is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by Friday evening and then to a post-tropical remnant low early Sunday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from Jimena’s center.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Hilda — located 1,610 miles east of Hilo at 5 a.m. — clocked in with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph while moving northwest at 13 mph, according to the NHC.
Weather officials expect Hilda to weaken further today and degenerate into a remnant low by late tonight or early Friday.
