Injured visitor, 76, airlifted from Lanikai Pillbox Trail
The Honolulu Fire Department this afternoon airlifted a 76-year-old visitor who was injured hiking the Lanikai Pillbox Trail.
HFD received the call at 12:02 p.m. and five units with 16 personnel responded.
A 39-year-old female companion, also a visitor, called 911 and said she and the man had been hiking the trail for about 1-1/2 hours when the man hurt his knee.
Firefighters hiked up the trail and reached the man at 12:26 p.m. They determined he should be airlifted.
HFD’s Air 2 and rescue specialists were diverted from a lost hikers incident on the Lulumahu Falls Trail in Nuuanu.
The rescue personnel were taken by helicopter to the injured hiker. They secured him in a rescue stretcher and airlifted him to the Lanikai Community Park, where Emergency Medical Services took over his care at 12:53 p.m.
