21-year-old injured North Carolina woman airlifted from Koko Crater trail

A 21-year-old visiting North Carolina woman was injured this morning while hiking the Koko Crater trail in Hawaii Kai.

The Honolulu Fire Department airlifted the injured woman to a landing zone at the Koko Head District Park, transferring her care at 10:36 a.m. to Emergency Medical Services personnel. She refused transport to a hospital.

The woman was hiking with her husband when she injured her right ankle about 100 feet from the summit.

HFD got the 911 call at 9:49 a.m., and the first unit arrived on scene at 9:57 a.m.

Three firefighters hiked up the trail, assessed her condition and found her vital signs were stable.

After she was airlifted, Air 2 returned to the summit to retrieve her husband and remaining HFD personnel.
