Honolulu firefighters airlift man, 77, from Diamond Head

Honolulu firefighters today rescued a 77-year-old man who became ill while hiking the popular Diamond Head Summit Trail.

The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call at 11:43 a.m. for a hiker on Diamond Head that was feeling sick and unable to descend the trail on his own. Five units with 16 personnel responded, with the first arriving 10 minutes later.

They ascended the trail by foot and made contact with the ill hiker at noon.

Following a medical assessment, HFD’s Air 1 helicopter airlifted the man to a landing zone at Diamond Head State Monument Park, where care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 12:34 p.m.
