Rookie Kyle Wilson is being counted on to step up if Darelle Revis' holdout lasts into the season.

CORTLAND, N.Y. » Dwight Lowery figures the New York Jets might be waiting a while for Darrelle Revis to show up.

So, the third-year cornerback approached secondary coach Dennis Thurman a few days ago and told him to give rookie Kyle Wilson the bulk of the work with the first-team defense instead of him.

"I just think the more that he can get out there and be exposed to that kind of stuff, the better his progression is going to be," Lowery said yesterday.

Forget the fact that Lowery is in the mix for a starting job if Revis’ holdout drags into the regular season. If the Jets are going to prepare for life without Revis, Lowery thought, Wilson needs the experience.

"When Dennis told me, I was like, ‘What?’ " coach Rex Ryan said. "I had never heard that before in my life. This kid loves to compete, yet it’s just another example of an unselfish act by a teammate."

Revis has missed 10 days since the team reported for training camp. He’s scheduled to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year contract, but wants to become the league’s highest-paid cornerback.

The Jets turned down the latest contract proposal from Revis’ agents and general manager Mike Tannenbaum said it was "hard to say" when the sides would talk again.

Vikings’ Harvin coping with migraines

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin remains on leave from practice, coping with migraine headaches.

Coach Brad Childress confirmed yesterday that Harvin has had "some" migraines recently. Childress said Harvin is resting at his home in the Twin Cities area.

"I’m not sure when he’ll be with the team. If I knew I would tell you," Childress said.

The second-year standout from Florida, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie kickoff returner, left the Vikings nine days ago when his grandmother died and has not been back to camp.

LB Curry back at Seahawks’ practice

Aaron Curry, Seattle’s second-year linebacker returned to Seahawks’ practice yesterday after missing more than a week with a concussion suffered on the first day of training camp following a collision with diminutive running back Justin Forsett.

Browns’ CB Wright limps off the field

Browns starting cornerback Eric Wright was kept out of practice after injuring his right leg during their morning workout.

Wright got hurt during 7-on-7 drills about halfway through the first of the Browns’ two practices yesterday. He was attended to on the sideline by trainers, who put an ice wrap on Wright’s leg. He limped to the team’s training facility for further treatment.

Wright’s injury appeared to be to his hamstring.

McFadden out when Raiders meet Cowboys

Raiders running back Darren McFadden will miss the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow with a sore left hamstring.

The Raiders also are expected to be without receivers Chaz Schilens, Jacoby Ford and Paul Hubbard, quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye, fullback Luke Lawton, and defensive end Jay Richardson.
