Wesley Ishizu, an engineer with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific, is the winner of the 2010 Asian American Engineer of Year Executive of the Year award. Ishizu, director of the Asset Management Business Line Mid-Pacific Division, supervises the Hawaii and Guam Planning Branch. He provides guidance in support of high-level planning actions, such as the U.S. Marine Corps relocation from Okinawa to Guam, and the Guam military buildup program.

Nolan Kamitaki of Waiakea High School and Andie Mitsuda of Punahou School received this year’s Siemens Awards for Advance Placement, the Siemens Foundation and College Board announced.

Candace Kanja of Mid-Pacific Institute received the award for excellence in teaching.

The Siemens Awards began in 1998 to support math and science education and expand the pool of technology needed for American business and industry.

The Siemens Foundation honors two students in each state with the greatest number of top scores on eight Advanced Placement math and science exams. One teacher in every state is awarded for excellence in teaching advanced mathematics, science and technology courses. The students achievers each receive a $2,000 scholarship; the winning teacher’s school receives $1,000 to support math and science programs.

Ward Centers‘ Friends+ Family+Community ReWARDS shopping event April 9-11 raised more than $23,000 for 51 local nonprofit organizations and schools. Participating organizations sold $5 tickets to the event and kept 100 percent of their sale proceeds.
