WOMEN’S SOCCER

» Penn State forward Tani Costa (Kalani ’09) was named the Big Ten freshman of the week on Monday. Costa scored a goal and assisted on another in a 3-0 shutout against Iowa. Costa iced the game with her second goal of the season in the 81st minute, leading the Nittany Lions to their 16th straight win over the Hawkeyes.

» Oregon State defensive back Suaesi Tuimaunei (Kahuku ’06) had a team-high seven tackles and an interception in a 29-27 victory over then-No. 9 Arizona on Saturday. Receiver Aaron Nichols (Kamehameha ’06) had three catches for 12 yards and cornerback Brandon Hardin (Kamehameha ’07) added six solo tackles for the Beavers. Defensive tackle Lolomana Mikaele (Damien ’06) assisted on two tackles for the Wildcats.

» New Mexico State quarterback Andrew Manley (Leilehua ’10) completed both pass attempts for 32 yards on the game’s final drive, setting up the winning field goal in a 16-14 victory over New Mexico on Saturday. Linebacker B.J. Adolpho (Kahuku ’05) tied for the team lead with nine tackles for the Aggies.

» Navy junior Aaron Santiago (Kapolei ’07) had six carries for 66 yards and a 9-yard catch in a 28-27 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

» Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o (Punahou ’09) had five tackles in a 23-17 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

» San Diego State junior defensive lineman J.J. Autele (Punahou ’08) had five tackles, including one for loss, in a 24-21 loss to BYU.

» Colorado linebacker Michael Sipili (Damien ’06) had six tackles and outside linebacker B.J. Beatty (Kahuku ’06) added a solo tackle and a pass breakup in a 26-0 loss to Missouri on Saturday.

» Central Washington senior linebacker Jared Silva-Purcell (Saint Louis ’06) led the way with nine tackles, including two for loss, in a 27-10 shutout of Southern Oregon on Saturday.

» Linfield (Ore.) junior defensive back Nate Dixon (Kapolei ’08) returned a kickoff 69 yards and an interception 26 yards that led to touchdowns in a 55-14 win over Puget Sound. Kalae Parrish (Kapolei ’08) also intercepted a pass for an 11-yard return and Kaua Olds (Castle ’08) had three solo tackles for the Wildcats. Loggers backup quarterback George Ka’ai (Kamehameha ’08) finished 13-for-19 for 79 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 24 yards.

» Boston College junior Brennan Clark (University ’08) finished with 19 kills and 11 digs in a four-set loss to Virginia on Friday.

» Oregon State junior outside hitter Dre Shaw (Kamehameha-Maui ’08) finished with 16 kills and 12 digs in a five-set loss to Arizona State.

» San Diego freshman libero C’era Oliveira (Hawaii Baptist ’10) had 15 digs in a three-set sweep of Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Saturday. Gaels setter Kapua Kamana’o (‘Iolani ’07) finished with 14 assists.

» UC Irvine senior outside hitter Larissa Nordyke (Punahou ’07) had eight kills in a four-set victory over UC Riverside last week.

» Colgate senior outside hitter Logan Keala (Kamehameha ’07) had a season-high 17 kills and 16 digs in a five-set loss to Albany. Keala added 11 kills and 14 digs in another five-set loss, to Bucknell.

» Long Beach State junior libero Lauren Minkel (‘Iolani ’08) had a match-high 32 digs and an ace in a five-set victory over Pacific (Calif.) on Saturday. Junior defensive specialist Rebekah Torres (Kamehameha ’08) led the Tigers with 20 digs and four aces.

» UNLV senior Kela Lau Hee (Kamehameha ’07) had a team-high 23 digs and sophomore Nile Te’o (Kahuku ’09) chipped in four digs and two aces in a five-set victory over Wyoming on Tuesday.

» Southern Utah senior outside hitter Jazmine Ma’afala (McKinley ’07) had 19 digs, 10 kills and assisted on four blocks in a five-set victory over UMKC on Friday. Freshman outside hitter Alissa Youart (‘Iolani ’10) chipped in with five kills for the Thunderbirds.

» Adelphi (N.Y.) senior setter/defensive specialist Heather Mau (Maryknoll ’07) combined for 34 digs, four assists and three aces in three-game sweeps of Mercy and Assumption on Sunday.

» Chapman (Calif.) junior middle blocker Nalani Haviland (Kauai ’08) had four kills and two digs in a three-set victory over Moravian College on Friday.

» Pacific (Ore.) freshman outside hitter Keahi Braginsky-Ahloo (Leilehua ’10) had 10 kills, seven digs and an ace, and junior Kelsy Takashima (Molokai ’08) had five kills, six digs and assisted on four blocks in a three-set loss to Puget Sound on Saturday. Mari Kondo (Mid-Pacific ’07) added three digs for the Boxers while Kris Sumida (‘Iolani ’07) had four for the Loggers.

WOMEN’S GOLF

» Tulsa sophomore Kristina Merkle (Moanalua ’09) sits in second place heading into today’s final round of the Dale McNamara Invitational in Owasso, Okla. Merkle shot a 1-over 73 yesterday after shooting an opening-round 68.

» James Madison junior Nicole Sakamoto (Kalani ’08) finished in a tie for 30th place at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship on Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn., finishing the three-day tournament at 6 over. Sakamoto improved by a stroke each day of the tournament, finishing with a 1-over 73.

MEN’S GOLF

» San Francisco freshman Alika Bell (Kamehameha ’10) finished with a share of sixth place at the Holy Names Fall Invitational last Tuesday in Alameda, Calif. Bell posted a final round 2-under 69 to finish the three-day tournament at 2-over 215.

» University of San Diego junior Alex Ching (Punahou ’08) carded a final-round 75 to finish at 214, good for sixth place overall in The Prestige at PGA West tournament in La Quinta, Calif., yesterday.

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep ’07) finished 5 over to claim second place at the George Fox Invitational on Sunday in Newberg, Ore. Boxers teammate, freshman Chasen Bahouth (Maui ’10), finished tied for ninth place, bouncing back from an opening-round 88 to shoot 4-over 76 on Sunday. Another freshman, Josh Mau (Maryknoll ’10), placed 17th for Pacific.
