HPU doubles up in softball
Maile Kim singled in the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 win in yesterday’s second game as Hawaii Pacific finished a sweep of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader against Dixie State in Brisbane, Calif.
The Sea Warriors (22-6, 12-4) won the opener 14-8 over the Red Storm (12-5, 6-2), with Kozy Toriano driving in two runs and pitcher Breanne Patton improving to 14-0.
Also yesterday, HPU plummeted in the national poll, falling from No. 6 to No. 22.
Silverswords take 2 on road
Shalin Yamaguchi drove in Skye Virtudes with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth and Chaminade completed a sweep of yesterday’s PacWest softball doubleheader with a 2-1 win over Dominican (1-20, 0-10) in San Rafael, Calif.
In the opener, Kasy‘e Lalau and Kelly Korras combined on a seven-hitter as the Silverswords (9-19, 5-11) topped the Penguins 3-1.
Vulcans sweep in softball
Christina Pedroza’s two-run double highlighted a four-run fifth and Hawaii-Hilo went on to an 8-0 mercy-rule, six-inning win over Grand Canyon in the second game of yesterday’s PacWest softball doubleheader in Brisbane, Calif.
The Vulcans (14-8, 12-4) eked out a 2-0 win in the opener on Amber Waracka’s four-hitter. UHH scored in the first on an error and added a run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by the Antelopes (12-13, 5-7).
In the second game, Pedroza tossed a two-hitter and helped her cause by going 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Baseball sweep for Vulcans
David Keller’s RBI single to center in the top of the 11th proved to be the difference as Hawaii-Hilo snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Academy of Art in the first game of yesterday’s PacWest baseball doubleheader in Oakland, Calif..
The Vulcans (8-14, 5-9) completed the sweep of the Urban Knights (3-26, 3-15) with an 8-4 win in the nightcap. Keoni Manago doubled in two runs in the fifth to put UHH ahead for good at 5-4.
