UH women sink Loyola Marymount

Monika Eggens scored a career-high seven goals and Serena Bredin had 12 saves as the No. 5 University of Hawaii women’s water polo team beat No. 8 Loyola Marymount 16-8 yesterday at the Santa Clara Invitational.

Eggens, a junior, fell one goal short of tying the school single-match record set by Marie Luc-Arpin in 1998.

Leonie Van Der Molen added three goals and Saara Majuri had two for Hawaii (14-6).

The Rainbow Wahine pulled away by outscoring LMU (19-7) 5-0 in the fourth period.

Fresno State beats UH men’s tennis

The Fresno State men’s tennis team beat Hawaii 5-2 in a Western Athletic Conference season-opening match yesterday at Moscow, Idaho.

Fresno State, ranked No. 44, won five of the six singles matches. Hawaii’s Jonathan Brooklyn beat Francis Alcantara at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 7-6.

No. 56 Hawaii won two of the three doubles matches. Dennis Lajola and Brooklyn won at No. 2 doubles, and Daniel Llarenas and Danilo Casanova won at No. 3.

Fresno State is 9-8 and 1-0, and Hawaii is 4-9, 0-1.

UH Dance Squad auditions April 17

The University of Hawaii Band Rainbow Dance Squad will hold its 2011-12 auditions April 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UH athletic department, Studio 2.

The Rainbow Dancers perform at UH athletic events and various community events.
