Gaddis wins UH’s Goo award

Courtney Gaddis was given the Ah Chew Goo Award last night at the Rainbow Wahine basketball banquet at the Ala Moana Hotel.

The reserve guard out of Kalani received the team’s most prestigious award for her off-court contributions. During the preseason, she donated bone marrow to a 4-year-old cancer patient who has since recovered.

Gaddis and six other Rainbow Wahine were honored as scholar-athletes: Mai Ayabe, Rebecca Dew, Megan Tinnin, Sydney Haydel, Keisha Kanekoa and Katie Wilson.

UH women win twice in water polo

The fifth-ranked Hawaii women’s water polo team beat Colorado State and Santa Clara yesterday to conclude play in the Santa Clara (Calif.) Invitational.

Junior Monika Eggens collected a career-high nine goals as the Wahine beat the Rams 19-6. Eggens and Saara Majuri scored three goals each as Hawaii beat the host Broncos 12-3.

Hawaii (16-7) caps its regular season Saturday, hosting No. 11 Arizona State at 6 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

HPU sweeps Chaminade in softball

Junior Maile Kim drove in four runs as Hawaii Pacific thumped Chaminade 9-1 yesterday to complete a doubleheader sweep in Pacific West Conference softball at Howard Okita Field in Kaneohe.

The Sea Warriors rallied for four runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the opener 7-5.

HPU is now 14-4 in conference, 28-9 overall. The Silverswords are 5-11 and 11-27.

Hawaii men’s tennis falls at Idaho

Hawaii dropped its second men’s tennis conference match in three days yesterday, falling 4-2 to Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.

Hawaii is now 1-2 in Western Athletic Conference play, 5-10 overall. Idaho is 3-1 and 16-4.

Hawaii senior Dennis Lajola and freshman Jonathan Brooklyn, playing No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively, won their matches yesterday.
