Police investigated the scene of a crash yesterday in which a 52-year-old Waikiki man was critically injured when his mo-ped collided with an SUV in Waikiki.
Mo-ped rider critically hurt in Waikiki crash with SUV
A 52-year-old Waikiki man was critically injured when his mo-ped collided with an SUV in Waikiki yesterday morning.
Kuhio Avenue’s westbound lanes were closed at Lewers Street for several hours following the 11:18 a.m. crash.
The mo-ped was traveling west when it collided with an eastbound Chevy Tracker that was turning left onto Kaiolu Street.
The SUV’s driver, a 72-year-old Waikiki woman, was not injured, said police traffic Lt. David Nilsen.
Suspect shot by police tests positive for meth
A man shot by police last week during an alleged crime spree on Kalanianaole Highway tested positive for crystal methamphetamine, the Honolulu medical examiner said.
Mark Ahnee, 28, of Mililani died from a gunshot wound that injured his spleen, kidney and lung, said Dr. Kanthi De Alwis, who performed the autopsy. De Alwis said Ahnee was hit by another bullet, but that wound was not fatal.
A second suspect, Michael Edward Manning Jr., 35, appeared in Honolulu District Court yesterday after he was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of first-degree robbery. Manning, who has no permanent address, was being held on $250,000 bail.
The two men allegedly stole a series of cars Thursday afternoon. The alleged crime spree ended when the suspects allegedly crashed a Honda Civic near Ainakoa Avenue and Kalanianaole Highway during a police pursuit. Police said Ahnee fired a sawed-off shotgun at officers, who returned fire.
