Hannemann, Gabbard tout Washington endorsements

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has endorsed former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the race for Congress, while City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard picked up the nod from U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

“Mufi and I go back many years. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Akaka to help save Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. I worked with Mufi and Sen. Inouye on infrastructure funding and strengthening tourism across the country. We share goals for a better America,” the Nevada Democrat said today in a news release issued by the Hannemann campaign.

Hannemann, Gabbard and several other candidates are running in the Democratic primary for the 2nd congressional district seat held by Rep. Mazie Hirono, who is running for Senate.

Gabbard announced this week that she had gained the endorsements of several prominent Democrats, including Ohio’s Kucinich, a former presidential candidate, and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.

“Tulsi believes, like I believe, that it is time to re-focus our efforts in Afghanistan, and bring our combat troops home,” Gillibrand said in a news release from the Gabbard campaign.
