Peter Senior tees off today during the first round of the Pacific Links Championship held at the Kapolei Golf Course.

Australian Peter Senior battled the blustery conditions at the Kapolei Golf Course today to take the first-round lead of the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship with a 7-under 65.

Bill Glasson and Jay Don Blake were tied for second at this inaugural Champions Tour event with 6-under 66s. Mark McNulty and Eduardo Romero were another shot back, tied for fourth at 5-under 67.

Despite the windy conditions that plagued the players all day, 36 of the 81 golfers in this full-field event were under par for their rounds. The top local finisher was Kevin Hayashi, who carded an even-par 72.

For Senior, he said after his round that he is accustomed to playing in conditions like these. He managed seven birdies in his bogey-free round to hold off Blake and Glasson, who finished about 30 minutes after Senior was done. Senior started on the back nine where he fashioned four birdies. He picked up three more after the turn.

Schwab Cup points leader Tom Lehman is tied for sixth at 4-under 68. Saturday’s second round begins at 9:10 am.
