Warning signs posted at Hickam Beach because of sewage spill

The state Health Department advises the public to stay out of the waters at Hickam Beach because of a 9,000-gallon sewage spill.

Navy officials said the spill along Gardner Avenue at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam was due to equipment failure.

About 1,000 gallons entered into a storm drain which leads to Hickam Beach. It is unconfirmed if the discharge reached the beach, the state said. However, as a precaution, warning signs have been posted and the public is advised to remain out of the waters until the signs have been removed, the state said.
