Hawaii’s Olivia Magill celebrated a point with teammates during today’s second-round match at the NCAA Volleyball Tournament in College Station, Texas.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS >> Junior opposite Nikki Taylor put down 14 kills and sophomore hitter Kalei Greeley and senior middle Olivia Magill added 10 kills apiece to lead No. 7 Hawaii into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA volleyball tournament via a 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of No. 15 Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station, Texas.

Sophomore libero Savanah Kahakai had 19 digs for the Rainbow Wahine (28-1), who won their 23rd straight. Hawaii advances to the Des Moines, Iowa, regional and will face Penn State on Friday.

It was just the second home loss in Reed Arena in 14 matches for the Aggies (24-7) this season.

It is the first time since 2011 that the Wahine have advanced to the third round.

Good all around play except that MO, as in the last game, had trouble with the serve and receive and let Texas A&M score on a 6 points or so run, almost letting them back in the game. Don’t know why Shoji didn’t pull her as he did in the last game. Expect the next team to target MO on the serve when she’s in the back court.

Leave her alone already Shoji knows what to do.

Agree, PS have nothing nice to say about student athletics. You have a right to your opinion but stop criticizing the players. Wish you could be on the court and show us how well you play so we can critique you.

        • Pacificsports says:

Just ignore the fact that Shoji pulled her in the last game when she did the same thing and in an early season game, the opponents targeted her with the serve and she got pulled for the rest of that game. Don’t like the facts, don’t read the news.

Great match. Took me by surprise after the way they played yesterday i thought they would come out like they left off. If they play like they did today the chances of beating Penn State next week is there.

Thought i saw Nikki Thomas in the stands when the camera showed the Hawaii fans.

Kahakai, 19 digs — Aggies couldn’t find the floor. Greeley with her laser vision, 10 kills at .625, found the pukas that others couldn’t see. Wonder Woman Taylor again carried the load with 34 swings and 14 kills. Our twin magnums: Maglio .353 and 9 kills, Magill .350 with 10 kills — the Aggies couldn’t dodge their bullets. In the battle of setters, Higgins outplayed Aiple, the SEC’s player of the year, who had 29 assists and 4 digs. Higgins had 37 and 5. Anderson, cool under pressure, came off the bench and delivered key serves and digs. Na Wahine played lights out defense. What a game. What a win. Congratulations to Coach Shoji, his staff, and all the players.

I also don’t think she hits very smart. TMO only wants to hit right through you instead of high hands, different angles or between blockers. She gets block the most & have the most errors.

Can’t you people just be happy with the freaking win instead being critical of our student/athlete.

According to the internet, the NCAA’s RPI for Texas A&M is No.6! Hawaii is rated No. 26! A while back in the season, Hawaii was first rated as No 32! But, Okay, I don’t want to post any sassy remarks on this matter after all our team struggled against No. 49 TCU yesterday. I will say however that today’s result makes me very happy!

  8. HOSSANA says:

I’m sorry but I’m so disgusted with couple of the comments critiizing TMO. As others have said, can’t you just be satisfied with the win as this was a team win and should they lose one day, its a team loss. Just tired reading stupid comments from the beginning of the season till now criticizing TMO and our student-athletes or even Shoji….geez, we won and am moving on to the sweet sixteen……cheers!!!

Great Strong win by Warrior Wahine to propel Hawaii to the next level!

pacificsports it is not about the facts but a student/athlete and all about your ego having to try to have the last word like a kid. This is a team sport filled with student/athletes who are representing the University, the State, their families and their love of the sport. Appreciate their efforts, dedication and committment because it is not only about volleyball but also about getting their degree.

    • RSYmoney says:

Agree. Some people would still complain if we won 25-0, 25-0, 25-1 about the 1 point. These are student athletes who read the blogs. If they were professional athletes, then you can complain all you want. Please just cheer them on instead of complaining,
