Hit station KIKI-FM gives way to locally programmed 93.9 Jamz

Clear Channel Radio today announced it changed the rhythmic Top 40 format of “Hot 93.9” and renamed the station “93.9 Jamz.”

As part of the change, the station’s call letters will switch from KIKI-FM to KHJZ-FM.

The new island-influenced format will be programmed in Hawaii, station officials said.

“It’s a new format featuring the ol’ skool music Generation X grew up with and certainly not their mom’s old-school tunes,” said Jamie Hyatt, director of programing for Clear Channel Radio Hawaii, in a news release. “The station name of 93.9 JAMZ is a reference to the way listeners in Hawaii refer to their favorite songs from back in the day.”

Ryan Sean will serve as program director.

KIKI-FM signed on as “HOT I94” 25 years ago and started the “Brown Bags to Stardom” talent contest that launched the careers of singer Glenn Medieros, actress/singer Tia Carerre, Kapena and Na Leo Pilimehana.
