Eric Ramirez scored the first of three Hawaii runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch and the Rainbow Warriors continued their hot streak with a 6-3 victory over Cal Poly tonight in the opener of a three-game series at Les Murakami Stadium.

Alex Fitchett tripled home a run and Josh Rojas drove in Fitchett with a single off Cal Poly reliever Justin Calomeni to give Hawaii (17-15, 6-1 Big West) its fourth straight victory.

Ramirez singled, scored twice and drove in a run and Marcus Doi went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for UH, which remained in sole possession of first place in the conference.

Matt Valencia (2-0) struck out pinch hitter Jake Mavropoulos with two on in the eighth and finished off the ninth to give Hawaii its 11th win in its last 14 games.

Kyle Smith (4-3) gave up four runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings to take the loss for Cal Poly (19-13, 2-2), which was coming off a series win against Cal State Fullerton.

Hawaii had beaten the Mustangs just once in its first nine tries in BWC play.
