A preliminary hearing is set for a 22-year-old man charged with allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in Kaneohe.

Teawekahikuonamoku K. Olds was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault and two counts of abuse of a family or household member in the presence of a minor who is younger than 14. He is scheduled to appear at his preliminary hearing District Court Monday.

Old remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 bail.

At about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Kaneohe Bay Drive, police said Olds and the victim, also 22, were involved in an argument while they were in their vehicle. The argument escalated and Olds punched his girlfriend “about five times in the face,” according to a court document.

Their 17-month-old boy was in his car seat in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle when the assault occurred. Police said the woman was treated at a hospital for her injury.

Police arrested Olds in Kalihi about an hour after the attack.
