Police: Man tried to drown lover after killing her dog in Kailua

Police arrested a 40-year-old man who is accused of trying to drown a woman after allegedly drowning her dog in a bathroom in Kailua.

Sometime between 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Sunday, the suspect allegedly drowned a 42-year-old woman’s dog in a bathtub, police said. An argument ensued between the suspect and the woman, described by police as the suspect’s “intimate partner.”

Police said he attempted to drown her in the bathtub and threatened several witnesses who live in the same residence.

Officers arrested the suspect that night on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, cruelty to animals in the first degree, and terroristic threatening in the first degree.

Police contacted the Hawaiian Humane Society. Workers arrived and recovered the dog.
