City removing dead tree from Foster Botanical Garden

The city will be removing a dead eucalyptus tree at Foster Botanical Garden, highly visible near the H-1 freeway, beginning this morning.

Tahitian Tree Service Inc. has been awarded a $14,520 contract to remove the tree, which is over 60 feet tall and two feet in diameter, during normal business hours through Friday.

No lane closures are expected, but motorists are advised to keep their eyes on the road as the contractor conducts work on both sides of the property line.

The tree removal was deemed necessary following an inspection by Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Urban Forestry arborists. The exact cause of the tree’s death has not been determined.
