Body of missing Kauai fisherman recovered

The body of a 25-year-old Kapaa fisherman who had been missing for two days was recovered Friday in waters off Kauai’s North Shore.

Preston Ikehara-Yasay’s body was found at about 1:30 p.m. between Kalihiwai Bay and Kauapea Beach, Kauai police said.

He was last seen Wednesday walking with his fishing gear in an area known as Dragon’s Breath near Kalihiwai and Kauapea Beach.

Firefighters started searching about 6 p.m. Wednesday after witnesses reported seeing an unresponsive man in the water near Kauapea Beach.

Firefighters, lifeguards, police, state Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Coast Guard, and volunteers assisted in the search.

An autopsy was requested, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
