Male, 20, dies after single motorcycle crash in Kapolei

All westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway were closed overnight after a single motorcycle collision killed a 20-year-old male.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the motorcyclist was traveling west on the freeway near Kualakai Parkway a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a metal guardrail.

The male, who police say “may have been” wearing a helmet, was ejected from his motorcycle and landed behind the freeway guardrail. He died at the scene.

Police closed the freeway at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday. All lanes were reopened by 2:15 a.m. today.

According to HPD, this is the 58th traffic fatality of 2018, compared to 36 in 2017.
