Hawaii volleyball’s Rado Parapunov again named AVCA national player of the week

Hawaii junior opposite Rado Parapunov today was named the AVCA national player of the week in men’s volleyball, his second such honor in three weeks.
The 6-foot-9 Bulgarian is just the second Rainbow Warrior to win the national award twice in one season. The other was Costas Theocharidis in 2001.
It is the 23rd national POW award for the Hawaii program.
Parapunov, named the Big West player of the week on Monday, had another impressive week in helping lead No. 2 Hawaii (17-0) to a pair of sweeps over Cal State Northridge. He hit .733 on Friday with 12 kills and .520 with 17 kills on Saturday to up his national-leading hitting percentage to .533.
Defensively, he had a combined eight digs and four blocks.
Hawaii holds the nation’s longest sets-won streak with 51. The Warriors were to leave today for a six-matches-in-10-days road trip, opening with McKendree on Thursday at the Brigham Young Invitational in Provo, Utah.
