Man, 85, dies from injuries sustained in McCully robbery

An 85-year-old man who sustained head injuries in a February carjacking in the McCully area has died.

Positive identification is pending. Police reclassified the robbery as a second-degree murder.

Lt. Deena Thoemmes of the Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail, said a suspect used force against the victim and took the man’s vehicle on Feb. 14.

He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries and discharged several days later. Police said he relocated to Colorado to live with a relative.

The Colorado Springs Police Department notified Honolulu police Wednesday that the coroner’s office reported the man died Monday from injuries sustained in the robbery.
