The Las Vegas Palms expands into parking lot
The Palms has quietly debuted a new west-end expansion, comprising an extension of casino space into an area that was formerly part of the parking lot. The new section features a bar, the Tim Ho Wan dim sum restaurant, and new slots and table games. It tops off the casinos extensive $690 million makeover that included room renovations, added restaurants and bars, revamps of the nightclubs and pool complex and a new marquee.
Strip bridge: The newest pedestrian bridge over the Las Vegas Strip, between Park MGM and the Showcase Mall, will open in mid-November, nearly four months later than originally scheduled. Overpass construction began in July 2018 and was expected to take a year, but utility conflicts tied to the escalators have delayed completion.
New Cirque: Cirque du Soleil’s R.U.N. has opened at Luxor. Emphasizing “explosive action and nonstop plot twists,” it’s a departure for Cirque and the company’s first new show since Michael Jackson One premiered in 2013 at Mandalay Bay. Tickets start at $59 before taxes and fees.
Westside happy hour: The new Jade Asian Kitchen & Noodles at Rampart Casino has a late-night happy hour Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to close, with $3.50 beer, $4 wine, $6 sake, $7 cocktails, and $2.50-$6.50 appetizers, including sushi rolls and ramen soup. The Rampart is located about 5 miles west of downtown.
Hawaiian hits: A Hawaiian visitor won $932,000 last week at Main Street Station. She hit the progressive jackpot playing a Madonna-themed slot.
Question: Last week you wrote about the TV studio Behind Bally’s and across from Ellis Island. What’s the structure on the Ellis Island property?
Answer: It’s an outdoor beer garden with a restaurant, bar and stage called the Front Yard. Originally planned for a 2017 debut, it’s now scheduled to open in December.
