Restaurant fire extinguished on Young Street in Keeaumoku area

Firefighters were investigating the cause of a restaurant fire this afternoon on Young Street.

The blaze started about 2:15 p.m. in the 1430 block of Young Street, and the first unit to arrive found smoke emanating from the roof of a three-story commercial building, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Jeffrey Roache. Firefighters discovered the fire was in a ground floor restaurant and extinguished it within 15 minutes.

The cause and a damage estimate remain under investigation.

Police closed the road between Kaheka and Keeaumoku streets until about 3:40 p.m. for the fire response.
