Hawaii Department of Education employee on Kauai tests positive for coronavirus

Kauai officials today reported that the one new case of COVID-19 on the Garden Isle was an adult, female resident who works for the state Department of Education.

The resident remains in isolation, and all identified close contacts are in quarantine, according to the Kauai District Health Office. The state Health Department worked closely with school leadership over the weekend and identified no close contacts at the school.

Thus far, the case has no apparent link to travel, the office said, but the investigation continues.

This brings Kauai’s current active cases to two, with eight individuals in quarantine as close contacts. To date, Kauai’s cumulative number of cases is at 62, with one additional, probable case.

The case is reflected in the Hawaii Department of Health’s count of 38 new coronavirus infections today, bringing the statewide total to 14,709.
