Two Kaneohe Marines are accused of hazing a fellow 21-year-old Marine, who later killed himself in Afghanistan, according to the Marine Corps Times.

The newspaper reported that Lance Cpl. Harry Lew killed himself in April 3 after being hazed by the two other Marine lance corporals. The three Marines were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment from Kaneohe. The names of other Marines involved were not released.

The Marine Corps Times reported that the alleged hazing happened after Lew had fallen asleep several times while manning a guard post in Afghanistan in April.

The newspaper said one of the lance corporals was expected to receive a non-judicial punishment for assault. The other Marine is expected to face a court martial on a charge of cruelty and maltreatment, according to an investigative report obtained by the newspaper.

The battalion returned to Kaneohe in May. 

Lew was an infantryman from Santa Clara, Calif. He deployed to Afghanistan in November and joined Regimental Combat Team 7 to conduct counterinsurgency operations with the Afghan National Security Forces. Lew joined the Marine Corps in August, 2009, and reported to Kaneohe in February.
