No. 6 Hawaii upends No. 5 Pepperdine in men’s volleyball

Senior opposite Brook Sedore put down 16 kills and junior hitter Siki Zarkovic added 15 to lead No. 6 Hawaii to a 28-26, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18  upset of No. 5 Pepperdine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior hitter Scott Hartley came off the bench for 14 kills for the Rainbow Warriors (14-3, 11-2), who moved into solo possession of second place in the MPSF with their seventh straight win. They are a half-game behind league-leading UC Irvine (18-3, 12-2) and a game ahead of third-place and fourth-ranked BYU (13-4 10-3), which was upset at unranked Stanford Friday.

Junior libero Kolby Kanetake finished with a match-high 13 digs helping Hawaii to its longest winning streak since 2007. 

Both Zarkovic and Hartley finished with double-doubles when coming up with 10 digs apiece. Senior middle Davis Holt was in on six of the team’s 11.5 blocks. 

Senior opposite Parker Kalmbach led the Waves (13-3, 9-3.) with 18 kills and 11 digs, and senior hitter Scott Rhein added 11 kills. Senior libero Brennan Anderson had 11 digs. 

The teams meet again Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
