CSUN rallies past Wahine basketball team
CSUN freshman Channon Fluker scored 31 points to lead the Matadors to a 63-60 comeback victory over the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team today in Northridge, Calif.
Fluker, a 6-foot-4 center, made 11 of 17 shots from the field, and 9 for 11 from the free-throw line and grabbed 11 rebounds and CSUN picked up its first conference victory of the season.
The Rainbow Wahine fell to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in the Big West with a split of its second road trip of the conference schedule.
Nine days after rolling to a 77-50 win over CSUN at the Stan Sheriff Center, UH outscored the Matadors (3-16, 1-4 Big West) 18-6 in the second quarter and took a 30-23 lead into halftime. UH led by as many as 14 in the third quarter before Fluker led the CSUN comeback .
UH led 52-49 on a Megan Huff layup with 6:21 left, but Fluker scored the Matadors’ next six points to give CSUN the lead for good.
The Matadors went up 60-54 on Emily Cole’s 3-pointer with 3:01 left and Wahine guard Briana Harris drained a 3 to bring UH back to within three at the 1:57 mark. But the Wahine missed their next three shots and Fluker put the game out of reach with two free throws with 9 seconds remaining.
Huff and Kalei Adolpho led UH with 12 points each and Harris hit three 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Huff shot 6-for-11 from the field and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Ashleigh Karaitiana added eight points and nine rebounds.
UH returns to the Sheriff Center to face Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and UC Irvine next Saturday.

Watched the first half and Wahine played lousy. Don’t think they have a leader on this team. Hope Beeman have some good recruits coming in next year.
Wow. Big Upset. CSUN had only one win coming into this game. Granted the freshman Channon Fluker had a great game with 31 points but still a disappointing outing for the Wahine. When your two veteran players Ashleigh Karaitiana and Destiny King are shooting only 20 percent, the loss is understandable. Hope the two seniors recover from this slump; we need their leadership.
Team looked flat and did not look like a team that wants to win the BWC. Can’t take one step forward and three back? But, the foundation and future of this program looks bright with the new recruits coming in next year. Let’s see how this team performs at the end of the season. They have to play for each other and play like they practice.

Beeman should have taken her out at that time.
She might want to focus better to avoid mistakes that are avoidable. Imho, they are not playing as a team and as a result, the effort is not there.
