Mazie Hirono

In other states, members of the congressional delegations routinely diss one another. In Hawaii, where everyone has been playing for the same partisan team, it never happens.

Until a Republican went to Washington.

Most recently, Democrat Rep. Mazie Hirono drew distinctions between the way she and GOP counterpart Charles Djou use phone polling.

She also blasted Djou’s "incorrect claims that the Jones Act is preventing foreign countries from providing assistance in the wake of the BP oil disaster," noting there are already "15 foreign-flagged vessels supporting the effort."

NCAA officials have compassion after all.

After declaring that Southern Cal’s prohibitions in its athletic program would cause cancellation of the University of Hawaii’s football season opener in September against USC at Aloha Stadium, an NCAA committee has signaled the game to begin. UH athletic director Jim Donovan said he is pleased about the change of mind. So are Hawaii fans.
