A man who stopped to help a motorist in distress turned out to not be a good Samaritan.

Police said a 49-year-old woman pulled over to the side of a major Honolulu thoroughfare after her car stalled just before 5 a.m. yesterday, police said.

Two men assisted her in pushing the vehicle to a side street, police said.

When one of the men asked for compensation for the deed, the woman handed him her backpack. The suspect looked through the backpack, then dropped it near the open driver’s seat of the car.

The two men then conversed in a foreign language, and the suspect punched the woman as she sat in her car, police said.

The suspect fled the scene but was found and arrested on suspicion of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Detectives did not specify in which “Honolulu area” neighborhood the incident occurred.
