Arnold headlines luncheon

University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Gib Arnold will speak about the new-look Rainbows tomorrow at the Honolulu Quarterback Club’s luncheon at the Maple Garden Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.

Also speaking at the luncheon will be Punahou alumni and Stanford men’s volleyball outside hitter Spencer McLachlin.

Jonathan Lyau, who was named the 2009 Senior Male Athlete of the Year by the Quarterback Club and John Campbell of the Campbell Pacific/Royal Hawaiian Ruby Union will speak at the luncheon.

 

Nilsson, Taylor win series finale

It was one of the closest finishes in the 21 years of the North Shore Swim Series, with 13 seconds separating first from third place in yesterday’s fourth and final race of the series.

Eric Nilsson won yesterday’s Surf n Sea Challenge by 5 seconds, the 22-year-old completing the 2.3-mile swim from Pipeline to Waimea Bay in 41 minutes, 23.6 seconds. ‘Iolani junior Kacy Johnson, who won the third race of the series, was 5.3 seconds back while University of Hawaii senior Stephen Allnutt, the winner of the first two events, was third in 41:36.8.

Kathryn Taylor, 24, won the female division for the second consecutive race, finishing in 47:06.9. Gail Grabowsky, 47, was second in 48:02.6 with Rachel Randall third in 48.33.4.
