Fujikawa in a tie for seventh
Honolulu’s Tadd Fujikawa is tied for seventh after yesterday’s first round of the eGolf Professional Tour’s Manor Classic in Farmville, Va.
Jason Kokrak fired a first-round 66 to take the lead. Kokrak is the tour’s leading money winner with more than $100,000. Fujikawa shot a 2-under 69.
Fujikawa won his last start, the eGolf Tour Championship, five weeks ago. The 19-year-old is fifth on the money list.
The Manor Classic kicks off the tour’s Race to Morocco this fall. At each of the four fall events, points will be awarded to the top-20 members on the final leaderboard and will accumulate through the conclusion of the Callaway Gardens Championship, Oct. 12-14. The member who earns the most points will be granted an exemption into the European Tour’s King Hassan II Trophy in March.
Guffens is PacWest player of week
Hawaii Pacific’s Richard Guffens was namedthe Pacific West Conference’s men’s soccer player of the week yesterday.
Guffens, a junior forward from Leiden, Netherlands, scored a goal and added two assists in HPU’s 4-0 win over Cal State East Bay last week.
Baseball showcase in December
The Hawaiian Holiday Baseball Showcase will be held Dec. 19-21.
High school players ages 15 to 18 can work out in front of some top college coaches and Major League Baseball scouts at Hans L’Orange Park, according to the showcase’s local contact, Dean Sato.

Maui to host Kids regional
Maui will be the site of one of this year’s U.S. Kids Golf Regional Championships. The 2010 Hawaiian Classic will be Dec. 20-22 at the Kaanapali Golf Courses. Golfers from Hawaii, Japan, China and the mainland are expected.
The tournament is open to girls and boys ages 6-9, who will play three nine-hole rounds, and 9-14, who will play three 18-hole rounds. Entry fees are $295 for younger players and $345 for older. Participants can register at uskidsgolf.com.
Kaanapali is hosting one of five regional championships that serve as qualifiers for the 2011 U.S. Kids World Championship and Teen World Championship.
Players qualify through the local U.S. Kids Tour or enter a qualifier event to gain a priority invitation to regional events.
SBS seeks volunteers
Organizers of the 2011 SBS Champion- ship are recruiting volunteers.
The PGA Tour’s 2011 season-opening event is the week of Jan. 3-9 at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
Volunteer duties include crowd control, admissions, driving and Shotlink work. Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of three shifts. Those who work five or more receive a hat, shirt and two rounds of golf at Kapalua Bay.

Kuroiwa still wins
HSJGA member Ryan Kuroiwa missed the cut at last weekend’s Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, but ended up winning the Core Values Cup the final day. The top 22 juniors advanced to the final round of the Champions Tour team event, with the other 56 playing the Cup at Del Monte.
