Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc. of Hawaii says it was recently awarded a contract by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to continue clinical lab testing for tuberculosis in the Pacific.

It said Tuesday that the five-year contract covers American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, Palau and Micronesia.

Diagnostic Laboratory says it will use a new type of molecular testing in an effort to reduce detection time from weeks to a couple of hours.

Diagnostic Laboratory’s Dr. Matthew Bankowski says quick detection is vital for patients with a drug resistant TB strain.
