Put old computer gear safely out to pasture

Heads up, people — or perhaps it’s "heads down." In any case, it’s time to round up your old doorstops, from wherever they’re stowed: with the dust bunnies, under the bed or on that top shelf.

The University of Hawaii is planning its biennial eWaste Disposal Days, to collect and safely recycle computer systems and accessories, handheld devices, office equipment and audio-video gear.

Schools and small businesses get to bring their stuff Oct. 27-29; for individual households, D-Day is Oct. 30. For locations, visit http://hawaii.edu/ewaste/ public.php — that’s where you can also download a list of what’s acceptable. Even recyclers have to be choosy.

Virginia Tech crawled into that spot in the season’s first computerized BCS rankings, allowing Boise to claim beating a ranked team, but just barely.
