Bank robbed; chase proves fruitless

A man robbed the Bank of Hawaii branch in Ewa Beach yesterday and escaped with an undetermined amount of money.

The robbery occurred at 91-775 Papipi Road at 10:45 a.m. The bandit, who did not use a gun in the robbery, was described as being 6 feet tall, weighing 185 pounds and wearing a red visor, blue shirt and blue trousers.

Minutes after the robbery, police were led on a chase in Ewa Beach by a 1980 Honda with a "homemade blue and gray" paint job. The suspect tried to evade police by crossing the medial strip several times and going the wrong way on Fort Weaver Road. He was caught in the parking lot of Hawaii Medical Center-West but was not the man who had robbed the bank.

Police arrested him on charges of reckless driving.

Driver arrested and freed after crash

Police arrested a 26-year-old man for alleged negligent injury after the car he was driving struck a mo-ped in Moiliili Thursday night, sending the 54-year-old mo-ped driver to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with severe head injuries.

The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. at Isenberg and South King streets.

Police said the mo-ped was headed mauka on Isenberg when it collided in the intersection with a green 1993 Honda Civic that was making a left turn from Isenberg Street onto South King Street.

Police said the man driving the mo-ped was not wearing a helmet.

The Honda diver was released pending further investigation.

Sibling is assaulted with golf club

Honolulu police arrested a 22-year-old Ewa Beach woman Thursday afternoon who allegedly hit her 19-year-old brother with a golf club.

Police said the woman did not want her brother sleeping at her house. When she discovered him asleep in a bedroom, police said, the woman confronted her brother and then allegedly hit him in the head with the golf club at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.

Police arrested the woman and then released her pending further investigation.

Police seek aid in finding wanted man

Hawaii County police are renewing their request for the public’s help to find a man wanted in connection with a burglary, four stolen vehicles and drug offenses.

Kaulike Rice, 29, was indicted recently by a grand jury for stealing computer equipment, vehicle documentation, lawn care equipment, savings bonds and jewelry during a Sept. 10 burglary in Holualoa, police said.

The value of the loss was estimated at $75,000.

Police also want Rice for four stolen vehicles, resisting arrest, drug offenses and a bench warrant.

He is 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and brown hair. His tattoos include a tribal type of tattoo on his right arm from the shoulder down, "Manoa" on the small of his back and a partial Hawaiian flag on his calf.
