BYUH seeded eighth in D-II tourney

Brigham Young-Hawaii earned the eighth seed in the West region of the NCAA Division II women’s volleyball tournament yesterday.

The Seasiders (16-7) will face the sixth-ranked D-II team in the nation, Cal State Bernardino, on Thursday in San Bernardino. The Coyotes (25-2) are the California Collegiate Association champions.

Team Hawaii places sixth in Tahiti

Team Hawaii finished sixth overall in the three-day Hawaiki Nui Va’a international outrigger canoe race that concluded Saturday in Tahiti.

The Hawaii crew was fourth out of 86 in the 58-kilometer race, the final event that goes from Tahaa to Bora Bora.

Three women’s crews raced in the 24-kilometer event from Va’a Hine to Taurea, with Team Hawaii fourth, Team Bradley fifth and RD Crew ninth out of 18 teams.

Team Kamanu also competed in the men’s division and Hawaii had an 18-and-under boys crew in the 24K event.
