Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Elwin Li Boud and Yuan Jia, who were ranked second in NCAA Division II doubles at the end of last season, are the top seeds in the 2010 Island Design Center Women’s Night Doubles.

The tournament runs through Saturday at Kailua Racquet Club, with matches at 6 and 7:15 each night through the final. Admission is free.

The tournament has expanded from eight teams to 22 this year. Qualifying was held Monday with six teams advancing, including Rie Yukihiro and Scout Shutter, a junior who became the first KRC member to play in the tournament’s main draw.

The only upset in Tuesday’s first round came when Hawaii Pacific’s Florie Paquay and Carrie Shuler defeated seventh-seeded Leilani Magee and Aglae Van den Bergh, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Li and Jia did not give up a game and every match went straight sets.

Teams from BYUH have won Women’s Night Doubles seven times. This year, two of the top three seeds are from Laie, with Hsuan Hwang and Salina Aranda seeded third. University of Hawaii players Barbara Pinterova and Katarina Poljakova, who reached the final last year, are seeded second. Hawaii Pacific’s Celina Goetti and Zora Vickova are seeded fourth.
