Police again seek public’s help in Sept. 25 Hilo service station robbery

Big Island police are renewing a request for the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed a service station Sept. 25 in Hilo.

The man entered the 76 gas station at Ainako Avenue and Kaumana Drive about 7:45 p.m. He demanded money, while carrying a large knife, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, possibly in a white pickup, police said.

Detective Wendall Carter said police need new leads to close the case.

“We’re almost certain that someone out there knows who this is,” he said.

Police ask that anyone who may know the identity of the person in the surveillance photo call Carter at 961-2378 or Big Island police at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
